Message from Vice-Chancellor Desk

It gives me immense pleasure to extend my heartfelt greetings to all the Students, Faculty Members, Staff Members and Visitors of the Murshidabad University. The University was set up by THE MURSHIDABAD UNIVERSITY ACT, 2018, (West Bengal Act XVIII of 2018). Its journey started with the upgradation of the Krishnath College, the most distinguished college on the eastern bank of the river Bhagirathi at Berhampore, to fulfil the long-standing aspiration of the people of Murshidabad and its adjoining districts. The University, currently in its nascent phase will be elevated to one of the most prominent Centre for teaching and learning, and research and innovation in India. The University will dedicate itself for the holistic development of future generations by providing required infrastructural facilities in a safe and comfortable environment to match with the evolving and globalising societal needs. It will play a crucial role to empower the people of Murshidabad and adjacent areas by imparting higher education. To fulfil the Mission of the University, departments across disciplines will be encouraged to initiate exchange and collaboration programmes with other universities in the country initially, with the scope of further expansion to international collaboration in future. Interdisciplinary research within the university will be encouraged and departments across the disciplines will be inspired to submit research proposals to various funding agencies to ensure time bound output and to create infrastructural facilities. All the Faculty members will be encouraged to carry out high quality curiosity driven research, applied research and education research.

In view of the economic and geographic background of the region, certificate courses on agriculture, travel and tourism, sericulture, metal and wood crafts will be introduced to generate employment opportunities.

For the holistic development of the students the University will encourage the students to participate in both curricular and co-curricular activities for developing a sense of discipline, team spirit, cooperation, responsibility and brotherhood.

A strong public awareness cell will be created to disseminate knowledge, to make the citizens aware of its activities, to attract bright minds and to help in justifying the use of public funding.

The University to enhance an environment of academic interaction among students and teachers, a culture of accountability and transparency, will include and involve of all its stake holders, including alumni, to achieve its time-bound short-term and long-term goals of sustainable development of the Nation.

The way towards achieving excellence needs continuous and untiring efforts with a motto to have “the overall performance of the University to surpass the performance of the preceding years”. This continuous annual incremental progress will take the University to new heights and make it one of the top-ranking education and research centre in the Country.
