About the Department

Year of establishment:

1. Undergraduate (B.Sc Hons. & General course): 1909
2. Post Graduate: 2021

Department was established in 1909 with both General and Honours degree courses. Initially it was under Calcutta University but it went under Kalyani University since 2000.

Many eminent Physicists taught in our department. Prof Amulya Charan Guha, who was the favourite student of scientist Prof. Satyendranath Bose of Calcutta University served this department and was also Teacher-in-charge of this college during a period. Prof Sushil Sen, another eminent scientist, who had an electronics laboratory in his house, was very dedicated teacher of this department. This Department can boast of another dedicated Professors like P.Sen, P.S.Basu, D.Kar, J.Biswas, M.Biswas, B.Bhattacharya and S. Roy.

Many brilliant students of this department are engaged in higher education and research in different colleges, universities and research Institutions in India and abroad. This department holds a record of scoring top ranks in University examinations every year. This department can also boast students bagging excellent ranks in IIT JAM examination. Likewise, this year a student of this department has secured 1st position in All India JAM and 8th position in JEST examination.
